What’s Up Wednesday

KITE2

What’s Up Wednesday is a weekly blog hop created by Jaime Morrow and Erin Funk, to help connect writers on this writing journey. If you’d like to join us, check out the blogs each week, get to know some of the other writers taking part, and spread some writerly love!

What I’m Reading

Still reading Froi of the Exiles by Melina Marchetta, and still have kind of a love/hate relationship with it. Almost done, so expect a full review to follow 🙂 The Park Service is still on the back burner for now, but I haven’t forgotten about it! Just haven’t had much time to read lately, and Froi is a long one.

What I’m Writing

Working on my WIP, Nightfire! The words have literally been flying by, with writing every day last week, I’m now almost to the 20k mark overall, and feeling great 🙂 Sprints have been very helpful so far, and I encourage you to try them if you’re having issues getting words down. Sometimes I don’t even mean to, or know what to write, but when I sit down for the sprint, the words just come out anyways.

What Inspires Me

Other writers! The writing community has been great as always. Not only for support, but I love seeing what other people are doing, where they’re at, and getting to share this journey with them. Plus, like in my last WeWriWa snippet, a comment inspired me with a whole new idea I’d never thought of before! Y’all are great 🙂

What Else I’m Up To

Wow, life is crazy right now! I am getting ready to be a first time aunt in the fall (we just found out it’s a girl! 🙂 ) I am transferring to a university in the fall, moving to my first apartment in a month, helping boyfriend through his summer classes, working full days for my nannying family, planning for a trip next week, and trying to manage my health. I am trying my best to keep up with Twitter and blogging, but with everything else going on, I am getting behind, so don’t feel that I am ignoring you! I will get to all my comments and tweets eventually 🙂

Have a great week!

  1. I’ll be very interested to read your thoughts on FROI once you finish. I have it sitting on my shelf, but still need to read it. I’m curious to see how Marchetta redeems him after certain events in FINNIKIN. Awesome that you’ve been so inspired and gotten so much writing in! Here’s to another productive week! 😀

    • I definitely will! I haven’t the read the first, but I still don’t find him all that interesting or likeable. A little disappointed that the most interesting characters are just sides, and not main. But thank you, and yes! 🙂

  2. I’m with Jaime… Totally curious about your love/hate relationship with FROI. I’ve read it, as well as QUINTANA, and I loved the entire trilogy. I’m amazed by how Melina Marchetta changed the way I thought about Froi and his behavior in FINNIKIN — I never thought I’d end up *liking* him. Anyway, do share when you’re done reading! Have a great week, Victoria!

    • I actually read it without realizing it was the second in a series. Maybe why I felt all of the backstory and massive cast was too much…I would love to read Quintana because she is definitely my favorite character haha, I don’t think Froi is all that interesting or likeable. I will though, thanks!

  3. High five, fellow nanny 😀
Isn’t it weird how you can have a love/hate relationship with a book? Certain parts are amazing and others are a real slog.
    Congratulations on hitting 20k!

  4. Dammnnnn you sound busy. Good work! If you’re anything like me, one of the hardest parts of the move to the new apartment will be the boxes of books. Spine…breaking…
What are these sprints you speak of? Do you just set a wordcount and hammer it out, without allowing yourself to go near the backspace or the arrow keys? Sometimes I can get a good run of words going, but then I hit not so much a plot bunny as a plot trainwreck, and have to go back to unravel things a bit.
Anyhow, looking forward to Nightfire being finished. Congrats on the 20,000! Keep going 🙂

    • Thank you! Yes, definitely not looking forward to that, especially being on the second floor. The sprints I do are coordinated through Twitter, @FriNightWrites or #writeclub. It’s basically a set time where you sit down and get the words out, then report your word count at the end. They run data analysis on the words or something, but it basically just keeps me accountability, and helps me to focus. Or I’ll do some by myself, or with other Twitter users who want to jump in. They’ve really helped me! Thank you 🙂 Hope I can keep it up.

  5. Wow, you have gotten a lot of writing done considering how much other stuff you have going on! Way to go! I hope you have a great time on your trip. 🙂

  6. I agree with Katy about Froi. I really didn’t like him when I read Finnikin, but he redeemed himself for me in Froi. That’s one of my favorite trilogies.

It sounds like you’re super busy right now! Hopefully you still find time to write 🙂
