CampNano: First Week

Hey all! Thought I would do a quick update on my CampNano progress and thoughts so far πŸ™‚

In my last postΒ I shared how I’d already had a rough day, and trouble meeting the word count. Since then, there’s only been one day where I didn’t meet my word count, but I built myself enough cushion in the first few days that it didn’t really matter. And after that, I was able to write enough words to catch up.

As of now, I have written 5,762 words for CampNano, which means I am past the 25% mark on my target, and brings my manuscript to a little over 28k total! As far as my schedule, I am three days ahead in word count, though I did that intentionally as I will be leaving for vacation on Tuesday.Β

I’m feeling pretty good πŸ™‚ Some of the scenes have been a struggle, others came naturally. And sometimes, when I went back to those scenes the next day, the right words came. So I am learning to trust the process.Β

I’m discovering all new layers to Kera and Torren, and they keep showing me that there’s even more to them than I thought, so that’s been interesting and fun. They are full of surprises πŸ™‚Β

The CampNano community has been great. I’ve been doing the #NanoWordSprints on Twitter, and my cabin is awesome! They are all great WordPress bloggers, and I am super impressed with our word count.Β

Again, with everything going on (and especially as I leave for my trip) please be patient with me, as I won’t be able to respond on social media or WordPress right away. I will get to you though, and I’d still love to hear from you πŸ™‚

What do you think of CampNaNoWriMo? If you’re participating, how is it going? If you’re not, what has stopped you?

Have a great week!

  1. I’m catching up through the madness that I’m dealing with right now. Sneaking in word counts every chance I get. Shhh, about to happen now while I’m at work on break. I’m re-working some scenes that did not get great feedback with the outline. Hoping it all works out, if not then there are always the revisions next month!

  2. I’m glad you’re more than caught up! I’ve been writing on and off for 5 years, and I never did it because that 50,000 wordcount was impossible for me. They may as well have made the goal a million words XD I may do CampNano next year if I can pick the word total. Just getting over surgery this year, so it’s not practical. I’m still dealing with a lot of health insurance stuff. I’m writing a lot more now though then I usually do. Seeing everyone write so much is inspiring πŸ˜€ I’m still going at a snails pace >_> 200-500 words per day is my max. If I’m not inspired 200, and if I am 500 words. Maybe I’ll speed up some by next year, lol.

    • Thank you! Yes, 50k in a month seems pretty hardcore. Not as bad now that I’ve experienced it, but it would definitely take focus, effort, and determination. Sorry to hear that! Hey, word count doesn’t matter. Getting words on the page is getting words on the page πŸ™‚ Keep at it!

  3. It’s great that you’re doing Camp πŸ˜€
I’m behind on word-count by day as well, although I wrote enough the first night to get me through the first week!
Good luck on the rest of Camp NaNo! I’m so glad you’re enjoying it πŸ˜‰
